Can I use Community in production? expand_more
Yes. The core engine and Excel connectivity are open source under EPL-1.0, with no key and no time limit. A commercial license is needed only for the DAX, MCP, and Writeback modules (DAX and MCP: after the 30-day evaluation).
Why per server and not per user? expand_more
A semantic layer is most useful when everyone can use it. Per-user pricing would push you to limit access, which is the opposite of what we want.
What happens if the evaluation key expires? expand_more
DAX and MCP stop responding; everything else keeps working. You can request an extension or buy a license at any time.
Is Power BI with eMondrian supported by Microsoft? expand_more
No. Power BI connects through the Analysis Services connector, and Microsoft does not officially support third-party servers this way. We test every Power BI release and fix compatibility issues; that is part of what you pay for.
Can I modify the source code? expand_more
The core is open source under EPL-1.0: you can read, modify, and redistribute it under that license. Commercial modules are distributed under a separate license.
